In Loving Memory of Carl Self

April 6th, 1932 – March 26th, 2025

Our family lost its humble cornerstone, Pop Pop, on March 26th, 2025, in Hendersonville, TN. Born in Clarksville, TN, on April 6th, 1932, Carl lived 93 years devoted to his family and passions.

He was the quiet strength behind us, always ready with a gentle smile or a helping hand. Pop Pop doted on his little girl, Cindy, making sure she always felt cherished. With Greg, he shared a deep bond forged not just by blood but by working side by side in the family construction business. The time they spent together wasn’t just about building structures; it was about building memories that would last a lifetime.

Pop Pop had a special way with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren. They introduced him to hockey, and soon enough, he was cheering on the Predators like he’d been a lifelong fan. His eyes would light up during family gatherings, especially at Easter and Christmas, where his joy was simply being surrounded by all of us.

Some of our favorite memories are the family trips to Gulf Shores, Alabama. Pop Pop loved the serenity of ocean fishing and the friendly competition of a round of golf. Those vacations weren’t just trips; they were the threads that wove our family closer together.

Sports were his passion. Whether he was avidly watching the Tennessee Titans or cheering for the Vanderbilt Commodores during college football and basketball seasons, his enthusiasm was infectious. We’d often find ourselves gathered around the TV, sharing in his excitement and making memories.

Pop Pop was humble, compassionate, hardworking, loyal, and resilient. He taught us the value of dedication and the importance of putting family first. His love wasn’t loud, but it was always felt.

Carl is predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Ludie Self, siblings, Barbara Brown and Carter Self, stepbrother, David Self, and loving wife of 50 years, Patricia Self and loving second wife, Georgia Wilson Self.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are children, Cindy (Terry) Hutchison, Greg Self, grandchildren, Stephanie Craven, Jennifer (Peter) Lagadas, Heather Murphy, Jeremy (Amber) Self, Rebecca (Shane) Bachelor, Rachel Self, Matthew Self, Drew Self, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephew.

We already miss his steady presence, his quiet support, and the warmth he brought into our lives. He may no longer be with us, but his spirit lives on in every story we share and every tradition we continue.

We love you, Pop Pop, and we’ll carry your memory with us always.
