Parker Gabriel Coats, age 15, a vibrant soul whose light illuminated the lives of all who knew him, has unexpectedly passed away on July 2nd, 2024, after complications from a cardiac arrest that occurred on June 6th, 2024. Parker was born on March 23rd, 2009, in Big Stone Gap, VA to parents Glenn and Jessica Coats.

Parker’s journey through life was marked by his unwavering love for his family and friends. He cherished time spent with his loved ones, often engaging in competitive board game sessions that created lasting memories filled with laughter and joy. His magnetic personality shone brightly through his silly, kind, and welcoming nature. Though initially shy, Parker’s bubbly and confident demeanor endeared him to all who crossed his path.

In his pursuit of education, Parker attended Liberty Creek High School. He participated in basketball and soccer leagues organized by the local park district and briefly graced the Track and Field Team with his presence. Recently reigniting his passion for fitness, Parker embraced a lifestyle that emphasized both physical and mental well-being.

Beyond academics and sports, Parker found solace in various hobbies and interests that reflected his adventurous spirit. His profound love for music resonated deeply within him. Playing video games like Call of Duty and Rust provided moments of frustrating, yet exciting moments shared with friends. Fishing around Lower Station Camp Creek brought him tranquility. Showing his love for the outdoors even further, as one of his lifelong dreams was to visit all the National Parks.

Parker is preceded in death by his grandparents June and Glenn Coats Sr., and his grandfather George Sowels Jr. He is survived by his parents Jessica and Glenn Coats Jr., and his siblings Chase Ayers, Malaina Coats, and Paige Ayers. Parker is also survived by his grandmother Linda Sowels, nephew Bryer Hester, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

As we gather to honor Parker’s memory, a visitation will be held at the Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Gallatin, TN, on July 6, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at the same location from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM on the same day.
