Mr. Nick “Terry” Willmore age 79 of the Rome Community was pronounced deceased at the Macon Community Hospital in Lafayette after being discovered unresponsive at the Knollwood Nursing Home in Lafayette where he had resided for over a year.

Mr. Wilmore is at the Carthage Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home where his funeral service will be conducted on Saturday afternoon December 21st at 1p.m. Eld. Shawn Shepherd will officiate and burial will follow beside his sister and near his mother and father in the Willmore lot at the Pleasant Shade Cemetery.

The Willmore family will receive friends at Sanderson in Carthage on Friday December 20th beginning at 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Saturday after 10 a.m. until services at 1 p.m.

He was one of two sons and a daughter and was the youngest child and was born in the Defeated Creek Community on August 15, 1945 and was the son of the late Oval C. Willmore who died March 4, 1955 at the age of 45 and Bertha D. Shoulders Willmore who died May 29, 1973 at the age of 65.

His sister, Sue Nell Willmore Cassity died at the age of 59 on December 18, 1990 and a brother, Lutrell Willmore, died as the result of a farm accident at the age of 17 on May 6, 1942.

He was also preceded in death by a first cousin, Brenda Cassity Ray who died in Murfreesboro on June 22, 2020.

Terry grew up in the Friendship Hollow in the Defeated Creek Community and was only 9 years of age when his father passed away unexpectedly. He had a mother that was totally dedicated to his upbringing and successes in life, which were accomplished.

Mr. Willmore was a member of the 1963 graduating class at Smith County High School where he majored in business education and was in F.F.A. his freshman year and the high school chorus his senior year. He was described by his classmates as reserved, pleasant and calm.

It was stated of him in the ’63 annual; “I use not only all the brains I have, but all I can borrow”.

Following graduation, he began work at the former Douglas Aircraft in Carthage and in September of 2007 he retired from the Ross Gear Division of T. R. W. in Lebanon with 37 ½ of loyal service and attendance.

A most important chapter in his life was when he was saved at the age of 13. He and his life-long friend and neighbor, Garry Wilkerson, were baptized into the full fellowship of the Defeated Creek Missionary Baptist Church, both on October 4, 1958, by then church pastor Eld. Arnett Gregory.

His only immediate survivor is his son, Trent Nicholas Willmore of Black Lick, Ohio. Terry’s mother was one of eight children, he is survived by several cousins five of which cared for him in his long illness; Dianne Cassity McIntyre of Watertown, Pam Cassity Smith and husband Ted of Glendale, Arizona, Nicky Cassity and wife Robin Comstock Cassity of the Turkey Creek Community, David Cassity and wife Debbie Gregory Cassity of the Defeated Creek Community, John Cassity, also of Glendale AZ.
