Karen Overton

Mrs. Karen Overton, age 69, passed peacefully on November 13, 2021 while at home with her family in Westmoreland, TN.

Karen’s 30-year career as an elementary school teacher began at Westside and ended with Westmoreland Elementary School where she was loved by colleagues and students alike.

In her free time, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and needlework, as well as making porcelain dolls. With all of her hobbies, Karen was eager to share her skills with friends and family. Many cherished memories were made thanks to Karen’s passion for creativity. More than 1,000 quilts, countless hats, and baby booties, and a village of Karen’s Kids dolls are spread around since she gave away so much of what she made.

Whether camping or taking road trips, traveling was a favorite pastime. Karen loved talking about the places she’d been on both family vacations and those she and Roger took. While she wasn’t a fan of bleachers, it didn’t stop her from being present and her family’s biggest fan as they played various sports over the years. It is fair to say Karen loved her family so very much.

As a member of Siloam Missionary Baptist Church, she also attended Rocky Mound Missionary Baptist Church and Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Karen is survived by her husband of 50 years 7 months and 14 days, Roger Overton; daughters, Sandi Overton and Sherri Overton; brother, Fred (Belinda) Spears; sister, Martha (the late Wayne) Bowser; nephew, David (Jennifer) Bowser; niece, Darby Bowser; niece, Heather (Brandall) Spears; nephew, Jeffery (Ashley) Spears; niece, Emily Spears; and her mother-in-law, Hortense Overton.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Carol Jean Spears.

The private graveside service for Mrs. Karen Overton will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at New Hope Cemetery with Brother Steve Johns officiating.

In lieu of flowers, any memorial donations can be made to the Westmoreland Food Bank or the Friends of the Westmoreland Library either directly or by contacting Woodard Funeral Home.
