She retired in 1997 and continued to work as a volunteer Executive Director, and Treasurer of the Sumner County Museum, and for 13 years was the Director of the Annual Cemetery Tour in the Gallatin City Cemetery.

She was named Citizen of the Year by the News Examiner in 2008 and in 2015, many thanks to the late John Garrott, she was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship of Rotary Clubs International. She had many friends and acquaintances in her lifetime and enjoyed eating out with friends. She made new friends quite easily and had fun with them. She was a big talker – she had a plaque that she picked up somewhere that summed it all up, “Lord, keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth.”
