James “Jimmy” Warwick Armstrong, Jr., age 90, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
Jimmy was born on January 10, 1933, to James Warwick Armstrong, Sr. and Margaret Van Hook Armstrong in Nashville, Tennessee.
Jimmy graduated from Issac Litton High School Class of 1951. After high school, Jimmy attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State College (University), and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant from their Army ROTC Program and trained as a tank commander.
He loved the river and river boats. After serving as Vice President of the Nashville Bridge Company, he became partner in River Lines, Inc, a river transportation company. Jimmy was an avid Vols fan and enjoyed watching games with his son.
After moving to Hendersonville in the early 1960’s, Jimmy became a member of the Hendersonville First United Methodist Church. Jimmy was also a member of several civic and professional organizations and a past president of Bluegrass Yacht and Country Club
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents James Warwick Armstrong, Sr. and Margaret Van Hook Armstrong and his niece Jennifer Hand Macchia.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 67 years Peggy (Hand) Armstrong (Litton 1953). In addition, he is survived by his son James Warwick Armstrong III, daughter Elizabeth Armstrong Greene (Travis), sister (in law) Donna Hand Smith, brother (in law) James L. Smith, brother in law William Hand, niece Karen Keyes Diner, nephew Michael Keyes (Nealie), nephew Edward Hand (Cindi), niece Tracy Hand Crider, and nephew Jackson Diner.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 1 pm-2 pm at Hendersonville Funeral Home. A funeral service officiated by Reverend Don Hutchison will begin at 2 pm. Burial will follow at Hendersonville Memory Gardens. https://www.hendersonvillefh.com
Active pallbearers will be James Warwick Armstrong III, Travis Greene, Michael Keyes, Edward Hand, Jackson Diner, and Randy Bridges. Honorary pallbearers will be James L. Smith, William D. Hand, Randy Rhodus, Steve Taylor, and Otto H. Oswald.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation to the caregivers at NHC Hendersonville, where Jimmy spent the last year of his life.
