James “Jim” Neldon Newman, Sr., age 84, of Hendersonville passed away on December 3, 2023.
Jim was born on August 28, 1939 to the late Bethel Cordell Newman and Reba Marie Newman.
He will be remembered as an extraordinary individual whose life was filled with dedication, kindness, and an unwavering faith.
Jim’s career was marked by exceptional service. Prior to embarking on his career path as an aircraft electrician, he honorably served in the Navy for three years.
Apart from his professional accomplishments, Jim’s faith held a profound place in his heart. He attended the Great Commission School in his younger years. He and his wife, Shri-Lahn, went on to start Gospel Sharing Ministries which has spread throughout North America. As a devout member of Hendersonville Church of Christ, he actively participated in various religious activities. Through his dedication to his faith, he was instrumental in baptizing a countless number of people including his own children and grandchildren.
Those who had the fortune of knowing Jim will remember him as a man of outstanding character. His gentle nature earned him the endearing title of “gentle giant.” Jim possessed an exceptional ability to encourage others and actively listened to those around him. He was always helping others and never expected anything in return. He exemplified what it means to be a devoted father and husband, consistently demonstrating love, care, and Christianity towards his family, as well as strangers.
Outside of his professional and personal life, Jim had several hobbies that brought him joy. Building things allowed him to express his creativity while gardening and tending to flowers provided tranquility amidst nature’s beauty. Jim enjoyed traveling anywhere with his wife and loved to camp as well.
Jim and Shri-Lahn were able to travel to all seven continents and they camped in every state in the U.S. and every province in Canada. Additionally, Jim found endless delight in capturing cherished moments through photography. On one trip out to California after stopping at what seemed like every hill top for yet another photo. Shri-Lahn finally had to tell him he would have to stop or they would never get there.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shri-Lahn Newman; children, Desiree Newman Lamberth (David), James Newman II (Kelly), and Melita Newman Hebert (John); grandchildren, Rebekkah Elizondo Soto (Bryan), Caitlin Lamberth, Chantel Hamlin (Chris), Ashley Newman, Holly Newman, Heidi Harover, Adam Harover, John Thomas Cordell Hebert (Hannah), and MaCara Hebert (Connor Moss); great-grandchildren, Haley, Kirk, Chad, Christopher, Viviana and Meredith James; and siblings, Marie Kirby and John Newman (Linda).
Visitation for Jim will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. https://www.hendersonvillefh.com
