The Darling family announces the passing of Gregory Charles Darling, 70, of Gallatin, TN, formerly of Rochester, NY. Greg was born on March 29, 1955, to Betty and Harry Darling. He passed away to be with the Lord on March 12, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Greg was a devoted husband for nearly 50 years, a proud father of two, and grandfather of four. His instrumental love for his family was seen, heard, and felt with deep conviction.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Darling; his father, Harry Darling; his brother, David Darling; and brother in-law, Tim Gefell. He is survived by his wife, Maureen Gefell Darling; his children, Molly Yarbrough (Andy) and Michelle Francis (Ben); his four favorite grandchildren: Miller Hopkins, Drew Yarbrough, Anna Yarbrough, and Bayleigh Francis; his sister Susan Bailey and brother Harry Darling, Jr; and several nieces and nephews.

Greg devoted his career to DuPont, where he worked for 40 years until his retirement. Following his career at DuPont, he spent a decade as the beloved substitute teacher “Poppie” to scores of students at Jack Anderson Elementary.

He believed in hard work, laughter, and love. He always welcomed a win from the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed watching the games at his favorite local spot, Moby Dicky’s. He had a lifelong love for music and dancing, creating memories that his family will cherish forever. In recent years, his favorite pastime was attending sporting events in gyms and on fields across the state to watch his grandchildren play.

Visitation will be at Hendersonville Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on March 18th from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass service to celebrate Greg’s life will be held on March 19th at 11AM at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Hendersonville TN 37075. Following Mass Gregory will be laid to rest at The Hendersonville Memorial Gardens. Family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Greg’s honor to the American Heart Association.
