George Harrison Lavender, age 89, of Hendersonville , Tennessee, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, following a battle with pneumonia. Born on April 27, 1936 in Savannah, Ga. George lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his family, Church, and community.
George built a distinguished career spanning nearly 5 decades. He devoted 31 years of faithful service to Firestone before retiring, and then embarked on a second career as a bailiff at the Dougherty County jail in Albany, Ga, where he served for 17 years. He often spoke fondly of the people he worked alongside during his career.
George is survived by his wife Elizabeth Lavender, daughter Pam Hines (Scott), Son Todd Lavender (Pam), Grandsons Chad Blalock (Natalie), Reid Blalock (Jessica), Wesley Hines (Kaitlan), Davis Hines (Amelia), Trey Lavender (Brittany), and Mark Lavender. His family continues to grow with 9 Great Grand Children.
Visitation will be on Friday March 13 at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Home from 5-7.
The funeral will be at Gillionville Baptist Church Saturday at 10 AM March 14 with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Roy Cook will officiate.
