Gary Francis Hawk, age 76 of Hendersonville, Tennessee passed away at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on July 28, 1946 to the late Donald and Evelyn Hawk of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Hawk Wilson.

Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jennifer Shepherd Hawk; children, Rebecca (Seth) Long of Lebanon, Tennessee, Diana (Jonathan) Habart of Springfield, Tennessee, Benjamin Hawk of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and sister Donna (Rex) Long of Marietta, Georgia.

Also surviving are cherished granddaughters Jordan (Ryan) Johnson, Taylor Long, Bailey Long, Evelyn Habart, and Lavender Habart and great-granddaughter Riley Martin.

Gary graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee and then attended Georgia Tech and Tennessee Tech Universities. After working six months for the Tennessee Department of Transportation, Gary served two years in the Army stationed in Kansas and Germany as an MP.

After discharge from the Army, he returned to his position in Highway Design at TDOT for the remainder of his career. Gary supervised many Interstate and roadway design projects. He specialized in the preliminary design of these including sections of the Vietnam Veterans Highway and other Interstate interchanges across Tennessee.

He enjoyed his time at home gardening, enjoying nature, working on cars, watching car races and football, and feeding birds and stray animals. Time spent with family was his greatest joy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd United Methodist Food Pantry or charity of your choice.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church starting at 10 am on December 10, 2022 to be followed by a “Celebration of Life” service at 11 am with Dr. Justin Walker to officiate.
