Forrest was born and raised in Springfield, TN. He graduated from Springfield High School, where enjoyed playing for the football team. After high school, he attended Memphis State University where he studied computer programming. He put his computer skills to work as a COBOL programmer for the Kroger company and later retired from a supervisory position at The Ingram Book Company.

Forrest was an avid fan of both sports and music. He loved all sports but was most passionate about football, both college and professional, with his true “sports love” being SEC football. Nothing made him happier during the football season than a Florida Gators victory.

His love for music spanned multiple genres and generations and included everything from 50s and 60s classics, such as “California Sun” by the Rivieras, the canonical works of Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac, and church hymns such as “Amazing Grace”, just to name a few.

Forrest was an active member of McKendree Memorial United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school and sang in the Choir. He was a beloved member of the congregation and he truly loved the feeling of community and family that he and his wife Marilyn shared there together.

Most importantly, Forrest was happiest when surrounded by his family and friends. Whether time was spent watching a football game, playing cards, enjoying a summer BBQ, or just visiting to catch-up he was always willing to share his time with others. Forrest will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

There will be a memorial service for Mr. Holland on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at McKendree Memorial United Methodist Church with Steve Vanhooser officiating, with visitation at the church on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. -3 p.m.(service time).

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to McKendree Memorial United Methodist Alzheimer’s Fund, 208 Wheeler St. Portland, Tn. 37148.
