Eva Jo Carey Hancock of Gallatin, TN passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on February 14th, 2023 from complications resulting from a difficult battle with pneumonia.

She is preceded in death by her father Herman Hale Carey, mother Eva Sloan Carey & brother Jack (wife, Frances) Carey, all of Hartsville TN.

She is survived by daughter Carey Hancock Peacock (husband Harper, children Adley Parriott, Scott Peacock, Landon Peacock) of Murfreesboro TN & son John Hancock (wife Ashley, son AJ Hancock) of Gallatin TN.

Mrs. Hancock was born September 2, 1941 in Hartsville TN. Growing up, she loved helping her mother with the family florist shop & beauty shop. As a local beauty, in 1958 she won Miss Trousdale County & was also elected Tobacco Bowl Queen earlier that same year.

She attended UT Knoxville, majoring in education & was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. While at UT, she met & married John Pitt Hancock of Gallatin.

Mrs. Hancock was a fabulous southern cook, had remarkable decorating talent & was an avid enthusiast of antiques & jewelry. She ran her own business, Lakeside Antiques, and was also an elementary school teacher at Howard Elementary School for many years.

She taught Sunday School at her church home, First Baptist Church, when her children were young & remained active in church throughout her life.

In her later years, Mrs. Hancock enjoyed antiquing, gardening & spending time with her beloved pomeranians Sandy, O‘Reilly & Keisha.

A special thank you to the incredibly loving, supportive, positive, & absolutely amazing staff at Charter Senior Living of Gallatin for greatly enriching her quality of life this past year. She constantly expressed how much she enjoyed living at Charter. Additionally, thank you to the Critical Care Unit and High Point Hospice team at Sumner Regional Medical Center for treating her with such kindness, dignity & respect in her final days.

A casual gathering of family & friends to honor & commemorate her life will be held at Alexander Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Gallatin on Wednesday, February 22nd from 5 pm to 8 pm. https://www.alexandergallatin.com
