Elwood “Woody” Marvin Steinhart, 81 of Portland, TN, passed away Jan. 2, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Shamokin, PA to the late Ernest L. Steinhart and Bertha C. Knarr.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Steinhart was preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Steinhart, Jr. and sisters-in-law, Audrey and Janice Steinhart.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; daughter, Sharina Nolin (Dr. Shon) Manchester, TN; son, Damon Steinhart (Theresa) Lebanon, TN; grandchildren Lauren Taylor (Hudson), Dr. Andrew Nolin, Shea and Ayla Steinhart; brothers, Carl of CA, Robert (Jane), and John of PA, and sister-in-law, Belle of PA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Woody and Peggy were married on Dec. 7, 1963, and they have spent 60 wonderful years together.
He graduated in 1960 from Coal Township HS and joined the US Air Force, serving 4 years achieving the rank of Airman First Class.
He was employed at Avco for 3 years prior to his employment with L&N/CSX Railroad as a locomotive engineer for 30+ years.
Woody was a member of McKendree Memorial UMC of Portland for 45 years where he became an all-around handyman and served on virtually every committee throughout the years. He was most proud of serving as Sunday School Superintendent.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, from 12 pm until 2 pm at McKendree Memorial UMC in Portland, TN, with Memorial Service beginning at 2 pm. https://www.wilkinsonwiseman.com
