Dr. Rev. George William Privett, Jr. age 93 died on August 6, 2021 in Gallatin, TN.
Preceded in death by Bill & Lula Privett, parents, Burnetta Vickery, sister, Wilhelmina Privett, sister, all of Mobile, AL and Rev. Calvin C. Privett, brother, of Rainbow City, AL.
He is survived by his dear wife of 66 years, Martha Breed Privett; sons: Rev. Jonathan (Cathleen) of Tempe, AZ; David, of Nashville, TN; and Ronald (Becki) of Nashville, TN; and five grandchildren: Sarah, Emilie, Connor, Will, and Sean; many nieces & nephews.
George found Jesus Christ as Savior while a soldier in Japan following WW II. He received his education at Trevecca Nazarene University, Nazarene Theological Seminary, and Vanderbilt University where he earned the Doctor of Ministry degree. He served as senior pastor of Churches of the Nazarene in TN, GA, AL, and NC. He was Dean of Students at Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, CO, and Trevecca Nazarene University. After serving seven years as Director of Alumni Relations at TNU, he retired in 1991.
During retirement, he worked for 5 years as a Chaplain at Trinity Hospice in Middle TN, and 12 years as a volunteer Chaplain at Baptist Hospital. George was a long-time member of First Church of the Nazarene and the Pate Sunday school class where he served as a teacher.
A private memorial service will be held in the Family Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Jonathan Privett. Due to the pandemic, the service is for family. Thoughts and wishes may be shared on the following: familyheritagefh.com.
Interment will be later in the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Pegram, TN. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the George & Martha Privett Student Endowment Fund, Trevecca Nazarene University, 333 Murfreesboro Rd, Nashville, TN 37210.
