Dr. Gordon Joseph Baird, Jr., DMD, age 87 of Gallatin, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2023.

Dr. Baird was born January 4, 1936 in Fargo, North Dakota to the late Gordon Joseph Baird, Sr. and Georgia Helen Canfield Baird.

He is survived by wife of 63 years, Mary Hill Brewer Baird of Gallatin; sons, Steven Baird (Nancy) of Loganville, Georgia, and Andrew Baird (Kelly) of Gallatin; brother, Thomas C. Baird of Meza, Arizona; and 3 grandchildren, Christopher Baird, Ryan Baird, and Sydney Baird.

Dr. Baird served our country in the United States Air Force as a pilot. He was a graduate of Pierre S. Dupont High School in Wilmington, Delaware, earned his undergraduate degree from Austin Peay State University, and his doctorate in dentistry from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Baird practiced dentistry in Hendersonville for many years before retiring from private practice to provide services for the Appalachian Life Quality Initiative in Scott County. While he resided in Hendersonville, he was very active within the community having served on the Hendersonville Planning Commission, Sumner County Board of Education, and was a charter member of the Hendersonville Rotary Club. He was a member of the Saunders Ferry United Methodist Church.

During his lifetime in Hendersonville, Dr. Baird was also the co-founder and co-owner of “The Shack” restaurant, owned “Country Side” restaurant in Gallatin, as well as built and owned Hendersonville’s first motel, “Canfield Inn”. Dr. Baird was a loving husband, father, and grandfather as well as being an avid fisherman and hunter.

There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
