Douglas Hoyt Thornhill, age 77, of Cottontown, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021.

Doug was born in Clarksville, Tennessee on December 14, 1943, to the late Douglas and Dorothy Thornhill. He served with the Tennessee Air National Guard for 36 years, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. Following his retirement from the guard, he worked as an administrative assistant at the Goodlettsville Nazarene Church.

Doug had a wonderful sense of humor, always happy and smiling. He was a great husband and father and a friend to many.

He is survived by his wife, Jan, of 55 years; daughter, Dana (Greg) Jones, son, Mark (Stacey) Thornhill, daughter, Amy (Philip) Smith; grandchildren, Celia Jones, Julia, Paul, Noah, and Caroline Smith and Jacob and Iris Thornhill. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Salinas of Pensacola, Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

A service to celebrate Doug’s life will be held at 12 pm on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at the Good Nazarene Church located at 400 Loretta Drive, Goodlettsville, TN 37072. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm at the church with a visitation 2 hrs. prior to the start of the service.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Thornhill, Steven Brake, Griffin Brake, Michael Waller, Bruce Brake, and Shane Pearcy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Parrish, Max Jones, Bobby Taylor, Gary Hotchkiss, Tom Yancy, Jerry Gingerich, Garry Franks, Stephen Dishman, and Erin Keenan.

The family would like to express their thanks to the team at the Gallatin Veranda, the caregivers and nurses from Highpoint Hospice, the caregivers and staff from Preferred Care, and the kind staff and caregivers from Brookdale Memory Care in Goodlettsville.
