Dorothy “Dot” Cartwright, a beloved resident of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the age of 87. Born December 28, 1936, in Goodlettsville, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Bradford Hamlett and Valoura Reece Hamlett.
Dot was a proud graduate of Goodlettsville High School, where she completed her studies in the class of 1953. Following her education, she enjoyed a fulfilling career, retiring from Pirelli Tires, where she was known for her dedication and hard work.
Outside of her professional life, Dot was a vibrant and engaging individual. She was known for her witty humor, thoughtfulness, and caring nature. Her personality left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of knowing her. Fridays were particularly special for Dot, as they were designated as ‘hair day.’ During these outings, she and her friends would indulge in getting their hair done, followed by lunch and shopping — a delightful routine that exemplified her love for companionship and joy.
An enthusiastic supporter of her husband, Dot was always present at the Nashville Speedway, cheering him on as he raced cars. This involvement in her husband’s passion as a car owner and sponsor showcased her unwavering support and commitment to family.
Gamma Dot also found great joy in nurturing her garden and surrounding herself with blooming flowers. Her love for detail was evidenced in her enjoyment of crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles, where she exhibited both patience and determination. A collector at heart, she passionately amassed Barbie dolls over the years, which brought her immense joy and nostalgia. Additionally, she had a fondness for shopping at Publix.
Dot Dot leaves behind a loving family, including her granddaughters Cheryl (Daran) McQuaig and Beth Mendez, along with her great-grandchildren Diego Mendez, Ana Mendez, Dalton McQuaig, and Drake McQuaig. She is also survived by her sister, Betty (Tommy) Elder. Each of her family members will forever hold her memory close to their hearts, cherishing the laughter, love, and lessons she imparted during her lifetime.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years Samuel Howard Cartwright; daughter Rhonda Cartwright; and brothers Robert Hamlett and Winford Hamlett.
