David (Dave) Phillip Orsland, age 86, of Hendersonville, passed away on January 27, 2024 at Sumner Regional Medical Center.
Dave was born on September 29, 1937, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa to the late Ditlef and Beatta Orsland. His father was a farmer and his mother was a teacher.
Dave graduated from Sioux Rapids High School where he played basketball. He attended college at Augustana University in South Dakota, graduating in 1959. While at Augustana he also played basketball.
He met Betty Hassell during her senior year of college when he was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. In April of 1974, Dave moved his family to Hendersonville, Tennessee. He worked as an insurance adjuster for 45 years.
Dave enjoyed sports, but his favorite lately was golf. He loved cheering on the Titans and Vanderbilt Commodores. Dave also enjoyed traveling with Betty and their longtime friends Dick and Becky Vangilder.
Dave and his wife, Betty, were married for 59 years. Dave loved his family dearly, especially his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Dave is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Orsland.
Dave is survived by his children, Kristin Orsland, Bret Orsland (Rhoberta), Eric Orsland (Laura), and Susan Smiley (Matthew); his grandchildren, Reagan, Harrison, Taylor, Grace, Ella, Sophie, Ethan, and Norah; his sister, Beverly Evenson; and his sister-in-law, Marjorie Hope.
