It is with immense love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of the man, the myth, the legend Darrell Nathan Short, aka “THE PAPPY”. Darrell passed away on January 14, 2025, in Gallatin, TN with his wife of 30 years by his side.
Darrell was born on August 15, 1969, in Torrance, CA to the late Robert and Louis Short.
Along with his parents, Darrell is preceded in death by his brother Daniel Short, sisters Candy and Mae, and granddaughter Cassandra.
Darrell is survived and loved by his wife and soulmate, Deniese Short; sons, Joshua Green of Portland, TN and 1 estranged; daughters: Reneé Montoya of Portland, TN., Antoinette (Dave) Wahl of Clarksville, TN, Brandy (Micheal) Bell of Franklin, KY. Brother, Robert “Bobby” (Amber) Short of CA. 11 grandchildren: Miranda, Amber, Jacob, Joseph, Justin, Naomi, Jaxon, Dalilah, Bailey, Bryson, and Journee. 5 great-grandchildren: Triton, Tidus, Holden, Hayden, and Iris. There is also a plethora of nieces and nephews amongst the U.S.
“The Pappy” was a loving husband, an exceptional father, an extraordinary grandfather, and a generous friend. Darrell didn’t know a stranger, and chances are he impacted your life in many ways. He was devoted to his family. His legacy will continue to live on in everyone that was in his life and stayed.
Darrell was passionate about being outdoors. He especially loved fishing with family and friends. He also enjoyed embarking on travel expeditions with family and good friends, Tony and Cathy Mooneyhan. He was blessed to be employed with Water Control for 20+ years.
His presence will be missed dearly; however, we will always carry him in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be held and announced for a later date.
