Charles Larry Gillespie, better known as Bear to his family and friends, passed away on August 12, 2021 at the age of 71.
He was born in Gallatin on September 9, 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Wylene (Bartlett) Gillespie, and brother Barry Gillespie.
He is survived by his loving wife Kay, his children, David (Hannah) Gillespie, Dusty (Alicia) Gillespie, Maggie (Chase) Thompson, John David (Greta) Blair, Julie Blair, and brother, Jim (Elizabeth) Gillespie. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Ari, Piper, Sunny, Grant, Lily, Chriss, Lee, Lex, Colin, and Caroline. They all called him Papa Bear.
Larry worked as a heavy equipment operator for most of his life, and he loved hunting and fishing. He never knew a stranger, and there are few people in Gallatin that are more well-known and loved. If you knew Bear, you knew what it meant to be in the presence of a true friend, an amazing storyteller, and man who loved life. He leaves behind a great legacy, one of laughter, friendship, and love. The world truly was a brighter place with him in it.
A visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church in Gallatin on August 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. The family is asking all visitors to please wear masks. A burial service will be held with family at a later date.
