Charles Edison Mims, age 85, of Pikeville, Kentucky, passed away on February 19, 2026, at Pikeville Medical Center. He was born on June 8, 1940, the son of the late Carl Prichard and Sara Kathryn Spears Mims, of Pikeville, Ky. Charles was a man of steadfast character who served his country with honor as a veteran of the United States Army. He dedicated many years of his life to a career as a Yardmaster at CSX and was a proud member of the United Transportation Union, all while remaining grounded in his Christian faith. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Beverly Sue Wells Mims; his brother, Kenis Bernard Mims; and his sister, Bonnie Sue Powell.
He leaves behind a sprawling and devoted family, including his children: Walter (Cherri) Mims of Hurricane Creek, KY; Charles (Mia) Mims of Georgetown, KY; Robert (Vicki) Mims of Hendersonville, TN; John (Kayla) Mims of Bowling Green, KY; and Amy Johnson of Hurricane Creek, KY. He is also survived by his brother, Tony (Sandy) Mims of Toler, KY; his sister, Daryle (Tom) Woofter of Falmouth, KY; nine grandchildren, Emily Lucas, Jess Johnson, Charles Martin Mims, Allison Rhea, Alexander Morris Mims, Matthew Edison Mims, Wells Lee Mims, Heath Earle, and Trey Gallegos; and several cherished great-grandchildren.
Charles Mims will be forever missed and loved by his many friends and family.
Visitation will be after 6:00 PM on Saturday February 21, 2026, at J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home.
The Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday February 22, 2026, at J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home with Chris Bartley officiating.
Burial will follow at Johnson Memorial Park, Pikeville Kentucky.
