Betty W. Anderson, age 89 of Hendersonville, passed away August 30, 2023 at home surrounded by her family.
Betty was born on July 26, 1934 in Kingsport, Tennessee to the late Johnathan and Bessie Willard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip J. Anderson; and siblings, Frances Cornett, Margaret Willard, and John H. Willard.
Betty is survived by her children, Norma Anderson (Atsushi Matsubara) and Joel Anderson (Nancy); grandchildren, John Matsubara, Joel Matsubara, Caroline Matsubara, Spencer Anderson, and Katie Anderson; and her sister, Bonnie Willard.
Betty was born and raised in Kingsport, TN. She graduated from Dobyns-Bennett High School and East TN State University School of Nursing. Later she went on to earn her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at Emory University.
She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Hendersonville, TN and the Companions Sunday School class. Her nursing career spanned fifty years. Betty worked at Duke University Hospital, Sumner Memorial Hospital and the Sumner County Health Department. She also taught Nursing at Volunteer State Community College. Betty retired from her nursing career to be a full-time caregiver for her husband Phil.
A Celebration of Betty’s Life was held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Hendersonville First United Methodist Church with Pastor Don Hutchinson officiating. Visitation with the family was on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hendersonville First United Methodist Church or Alive Hospice.
