Barbara Ann Miller Hoagland, born July 12, 1937 in the Fredonia/Dunkirk region of New York to Christian and Laura Miller, passed away peacefully at her home in White House, TN on May 9, 2025.
She attended Alfred University in New York where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1959. Later she received her Master of Education from State University of New York in Buffalo in 1963.
She had a career as a teacher in school systems in New York, Alabama, and Pennsylvania before finally settling in White House in 2005.
She was an avid reader of the biographies of political, historical, and Hollywood figures with a keen interest in the life of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. She loved listening to Broadway show tunes and loud patriotic music during the July 4th holiday.
She kept a meticulous set of photo albums recording family events throughout her life. Her commitment to family and community was a driving force her entire life. She made life-long friendships at all stops along the way and maintained contact through written correspondence with her friends until a few years ago when she discovered the quickness of email and texting, which she considered a wonderful tool in communication.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Peter Hoagland, who she met while attending Alfred University, and their daughter, Diane Alford of Gadsden, Alabama.
She is survived by her daughter Laura Garmon (Billy) and granddaughter Amy of White House, her son Robert Hoagland (Liz) and grandson Robert of Bethesda, Maryland.
A memorial will be held at Cole & Garrett Funeral Home in White House, TN on June 13, 2025 at 4:00 pm followed by a small gathering of family members for internment at White House Memorial Gardens the next day.
In lieu of flowers Mom would appreciate it if you donated to a charity of your choice in her honor.
