June 2, 2025 – A 17-year-old juvenile was taken into custody Monday morning after allegedly stabbing and shooting at his father during a violent domestic incident in Cottontown.
According to the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence following a report of a stabbing. The investigation revealed that the altercation began after the father reportedly shot the family dog for killing chickens.
The juvenile, who was inside the home at the time, told investigators he heard the gunshot and went outside to the henhouse, where he confronted his father. During the confrontation, the teen stabbed his father twice. A struggle followed, after which the juvenile went back inside the home, retrieved a handgun, and returned to fire multiple rounds outside.
The father was able to escape the property and call for help. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received medical attention at the scene.
The juvenile was taken into custody without further incident. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
“The entire situation is tragic,” said Chief Deputy Tommy Greer. “Anytime a family dispute turns violent, especially involving a juvenile, it’s heartbreaking for everyone involved.”
