Thursday, following a two-day jury trial, Daryel Wayne Key was convicted of Assault and Evading Arrest in a case prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Tara Wyllie.
The evidence showed that Key assaulted the victim by shoving him off a deck, causing significant injuries. After the assault, Key fled the scene in a vehicle and traveled over a mile before being stopped—only after officers with the Hendersonville Police Department activated their lights and sirens.
This case was thoroughly investigated by FTO Josh Davis. Immediately after the verdict, Judge Dee David Gay revoked the defendant’s bond. Sentencing is scheduled for March 20. Key faces up to 4 years in prison for the felony charge, with a potential additional sentence of 11 months and 29 days on the misdemeanor count.
“At the Sumner County District Attorney, I remain committed to getting justice in every case. This conviction is a testament to the hard work of the Hendersonville Police Department—with strong investigations lead to better outcomes. I’m also grateful to Victim-Witness Coordinator Sally Pirtle for her tireless work supporting the victim and our prosecution team throughout the process.”
