Sunday evening around 8pm, the Gallatin Fire Department responded to a call at the new Sumner County Courthouse on the square in Gallatin. Heavy fire was observed on arrival of first due units, Sumner County EMA posted via Facebook.

During a press conference on Monday, Fire Chief Jeff Beaman said the fire was contained to the roof. Chief Beaman said the fire was under control by 9:12pm and just a few minutes after 10pm the fire was “knocked down”, which means units have “eliminated hot spots” and there are “no additional hazards”, Chief Beaman explained.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time. County Mayor Anthony Holt said lightning could have been the cause of the fire.

Construction of the Sumner County courthouse began last year and was expected to be complete in 2023.

No one was injured in the incident and no other structures were affected.

In addition to the Gallatin Fire Department, Gallatin PD, Sumner EMS, Hendersonville Fire, Number One Volunteer Fire, Gallatin Volunteer Fire, Sumner County Sheriff’s Office and Sumner County Fire Buffs Rehab responded to the call.
