Hendersonville Police Officer Dies After Cancer Battle

The Hendersonville community is mourning the loss of Officer Danny Ellis, a dedicated member of the Hendersonville Police Department, who passed away late Monday night, April 28, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Officer Ellis joined HPD in 1998 and faithfully served the city for over 25 years. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned numerous nominations and awards in recognition of his unwavering dedication and service. He spent the majority of his time in the Patrol Division, where he built strong connections with residents and found joy in serving the public each day. He also contributed significantly to the department’s boat patrol unit.

Known for his commitment, kindness, and professionalism, Officer Ellis leaves behind a legacy of service that deeply touched both his fellow officers and the citizens of Hendersonville.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Long Hollow Baptist Church. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 6, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sumner Funeral and Cremation Lakeside, and again from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church prior to the service. A processional will follow the service, with route details to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Live Love Nashville.
