On January 12, 2025, the Hendersonville Police began an investigation in the 100-block area of Allen Ct. after a resident reported that someone had shot their cat with an arrow. Despite being immediately taken to an emergency veterinary clinic, the cat succumbed to its wounds. The investigation led Hendersonville Police to a nearby neighbor, 61-year-old Mr. Richard Coomes.
On January 15, 2025, Hendersonville Police served a search warrant on Mr. Coomes’ home and located a crossbow and arrows that matched the one that struck the victim’s cat. Mr. Coomes was arrested and charged with one count of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
Mr. Coomes posted his $7,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court on 1/31/25 at 10:00 am.
