GameStop is expected to close more than 300 additional stores nationwide this month, with several locations in Tennessee affected.

According to the Tennessean, the company has not publicly confirmed a full list of closures, reports tracking store shutdowns indicate hundreds of locations are either already closed or scheduled to close soon. In Tennessee, nine stores have been confirmed closed, with one additional location reported to be closing.

The closures follow a difficult year for the video game retailer. In 2025, GameStop closed nearly 600 stores nationwide, with a large portion of those shutting down in January.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission in December, the company stated it planned to reduce its store count further by January 31, 2026, which marks the end of its fiscal year.

The following Tennessee locations were expected to close around January 7:

  • Clarksville – Riverpoint Shopping Center, 2351 Madison Street
  • Greeneville – Shops in Greeneville, 3793 East Andrew Johnson Highway
  • Hermitage – HG Hill Center, 4469 Lebanon Pike
  • Jackson – 2103 South Highland Avenue
  • Lawrenceburg – 2136 North Locust Avenue
  • Lenoir City – Franklin Centre, 875 Highway 321 North
  • Murfreesboro – College Central, 2866 South Rutherford Road
  • Savannah – Riverboat Plaza, 1800 Wayne Road

There is no confirmed total for how many GameStop locations remain open in Tennessee, though stores are still listed in the state’s largest metropolitan areas.

Industry trends suggest the closures are tied to changes in how consumers buy games. Digital downloads have become increasingly popular, and many modern consoles no longer include disc drives, reducing reliance on physical retail locations.
