A police sting in Gallatin has led to the arrest of three men accused of using stolen identities to apply for loans, WKRN reports.

The Gallatin Police Department says the suspects used the identities of at least two local victims, created fake identification cards, and applied for loans totaling thousands of dollars. The operation took place Tuesday, December 30.

Kyle Griffin, 29, and Derrick Matthews Jr., 30, both from Georgia, were arrested outside a financial institution. A third suspect, 30-year-old Treyquan Thomas of Florida, was taken into custody inside the building, where officers say he believed he was finalizing a loan application for thousands of dollars.

Investigators said the group used stolen financial information from Middle Tennessee victims to begin the loan process online before traveling to the area. Authorities are still unsure how the suspects obtained the victims’ information, but said the men drove from Georgia to carry out the scheme.

Police reported the group attempted to secure fraudulent loans in Lebanon and Gallatin but were unsuccessful. However, before arriving in Sumner County, investigators said the suspects were able to obtain thousands of dollars from a Nashville loan company using fake documents.

According to police, Thomas had the victim’s name and financial details written on his hand and stored on his phone, which investigators say he used to remember who he was impersonating during the loan interview.

All three men are being held in the Sumner County Jail on charges of identity theft, conspiracy to commit identity theft, and theft. Anyone who believes they may have been a victim is encouraged to contact local law enforcement.
