Hendersonville Fire Department is reminding drivers to stay alert and obey emergency traffic laws after an incident overnight damaged one of the department’s fire engines.

While crews were responding to a motor vehicle accident, a second incident occurred when a driver failed to yield to emergency vehicles and nearly struck personnel on scene. The vehicle instead collided with Engine 25, causing significant damage.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. All HFD staff, along with Hendersonville Police Department officers and Sumner County EMS personnel present at the scene, were unharmed. Their equipment also remained intact.

Officials are calling the incident a sobering reminder of the risks first responders face daily. Drivers are urged to slow down and move over when approaching emergency scenes—both to comply with the law and protect lives.

“We’re grateful this didn’t end in tragedy,” the department stated. “Please do your part to keep our emergency responders safe.”
