May 14, 2025 – Elvis Shawn Bush, 43, has been convicted of felony escape following a jury trial in Sumner County Criminal Court. The conviction comes after an investigation by the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Bush and two other inmates escaped from the Sumner County Jail while serving sentences.
Bush was indicted by the Grand Jury in April 2024 and was quickly apprehended after the escape. The two other inmates were also recaptured.
Felony escape is classified as a Class E felony in Tennessee and carries a maximum sentence of six years in prison. Bush will be sentenced at a later date by Criminal Court Judge Dee David Gay.
District Attorney General Ray Whitley commended Assistant District Attorneys Dan Daugherty and Eli Freeman for securing the conviction, and praised the coordinated efforts of the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office and Gallatin Police Department in quickly capturing the escapees.
