As warmer weather brings more people outdoors, city officials are addressing a rise in complaints tied to the misuse of recreational vehicles.
The City of Hendersonville, TN is reminding residents to follow local guidelines for golf carts, e-bikes, scooters, and other motorized vehicles to help keep roads and shared spaces safe.
Officials say golf carts are only allowed on roadways if they are properly registered as low-speed or medium-speed vehicles. Drivers must also have a valid license and obey all traffic laws. Unregistered golf carts are not permitted on public roads.
E-bikes and scooters are divided into different classes based on speed, but generally must follow the same rules as traditional bicycles. That includes using bike lanes where available and exercising caution on sidewalks and greenways, especially around pedestrians.
The city also clarified that electric bikes without pedals are classified as motorized bicycles or e-motorcycles, depending on their speed. These require a licensed driver and are not allowed on sidewalks or greenways.
Additionally, recreational vehicles are prohibited on park fields, and bikes, e-bikes, and scooters must stay on designated greenway trails.
City leaders encourage residents to review the full guidelines and stay informed before heading out, emphasizing that proper use helps ensure safety for everyone in the community.
